“Stop Blaming Governors Alone”: Katsina Governor Points Fingers at Abuja Over Hardship

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, has urged Nigerians to rethink where they place blame for the country’s worsening economic hardship, arguing that state governors do not control the bulk of national resources. Speaking in an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI) Hausa, Radda said the Federal Government receives more than half of the country’s monthly federation revenue.

The governor explained that the existing revenue-sharing formula leaves states and local governments struggling to meet rising demands, despite public assumptions that governors are flush with cash. His comments come amid increasing scrutiny of state governments following higher allocations triggered by the removal of fuel subsidy, a move that has intensified economic pressure on citizens.

Radda noted that while public anger is often directed at governors and local council chairmen, 52 percent of federation revenue goes to the Federal Government, with the remaining 48 percent shared among the 36 states and 774 local governments. “For decades, the Federal Government has been receiving the larger share of federation revenue,” he said, adding that Nigerians should be asking harder questions about how that money has been spent.
