Storm Benjamin is set to sweep across the UK on Thursday, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and flood risks to large parts of the country.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain across southern England, Wales, the East Midlands, and Yorkshire. Rain is expected until 9 pm, with up to 50 mm possible in some areas. Wind alerts are in place from 9 am to midnight, with gusts of 55–65 mph widely and up to 70 mph along exposed coasts.
Forecasters warn of travel disruption, power cuts, and flooding, especially in low-lying regions. Coastal areas may see large waves and dangerous conditions.
A Met Office spokesperson said:
“Parts of the UK will see strong winds and heavy rain through Thursday. We advise people to stay alert and plan ahead.”
Conditions should ease overnight, with calmer, cooler weather expected on Friday.
