Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of a new head coach for Enyimba International Football Club, Aba.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who announced Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the club’s new technical head.

Enyimba remains Nigeria’s most decorated football club and one of Abia State’s most prominent sporting brands on the African continent. A two-time CAF Champions League winner and multiple domestic league champion, the Aba-based side has long projected the state’s image in continental football while inspiring generations of players and supporters.

However, the club has experienced a decline in recent years, falling short of its historic standards of excellence.

According to the statement, the Otti administration is committed to restoring Enyimba’s status as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football, while repositioning the club for professionalism, sustainability, and strong corporate governance.

“The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of a strategic effort to reinvigorate the club’s technical direction, strengthen its competitive edge, and lay a solid foundation for long-term success,” the statement said.

Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is described as a highly experienced football tactician, holding CAF A, B and C coaching licences. He has served as head coach and technical adviser to several reputable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, where he recorded notable successes.

His achievements include winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025.

Governor Otti expressed confidence that the coach’s experience, technical expertise and professional discipline would play a key role in rebuilding Enyimba and restoring the club to its rightful place among the powerhouses of Nigerian and African football.
