Two strong earthquakes rattled Costa Rica and Argentina on Tuesday, with tremors felt across wide areas but no major damage reported.
In Costa Rica, a magnitude 5.9 quake hit near Quepos, Puntarenas, at a depth of about 31 km. Residents in several provinces felt sharp shaking, though emergency officials reported no serious injuries or structural damage.
In Argentina, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck La Rioja Province at a depth of 122 km. The deep tremor was felt across northwestern regions but caused no reported harm.
Both nations lie in active seismic zones, Costa Rica along the Cocos-Caribbean plate boundary, and Argentina near the Nazca-South American plate interface. Experts say the quakes are unrelated and typical of regional tectonic activity.
Authorities continue to monitor for aftershocks, but no tsunami warnings have been issued.
