The Super Eagles and their officials have boarded their aircraft and are set to depart Libya for Nigeria following a disrupted Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match scheduled for Tuesday.
The team faced a 14-hour delay after their flight was diverted to another city in Libya. Allegations suggest that Libyan authorities denied permission for the Super Eagles’ chartered flight to refuel before returning to Nigeria.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), confirmed the news on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday evening, stating, “Super Eagles team now boarding. Wishing them safe travels.”
Player Bruno Onyemaechi also shared his relief, saying, “Me and Libya, I’ve washed my hands of it. Thank God I’m going back.”
