
The Super Eagles began preparations for their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers with an opening training session in Uyo on Tuesday, featuring 15 players.
Captain William Troost-Ekong was among the early arrivals as the camp officially opened on Monday, with head coach Eric Chelle overseeing his first session a day later.
Those in action included Bruno Onyemaechi, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, Adebayo Adeleye, Chidozie Awaziem, Benjamin Fredericks, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Paris FC forward Moses Simon, full-back Ola Aina, defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Fulham pair Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi also took part.
More reinforcements were expected on Tuesday night and Wednesday, including first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, as well as Christantus Uche, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, and Cyriel Dessers, all of whom recently completed deadline-day transfers. CAF African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, alongside Victor Osimhen and Raphael Onyedika, were also scheduled to join the camp.
Nigeria face Rwanda in a match-day seven tie at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday, September 6, before travelling to Bloemfontein for a clash with South Africa on Tuesday, September 9.
The three-time African champions are targeting back-to-back victories to revive their qualification chances for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
