The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit seeking the removal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office, describing it as frivolous and lacking merit.
The suit, filed by Ambrose Owuru, the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), alleged that President Tinubu should be removed from office based on unsubstantiated claims involving Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports and alleged drug-related issues.
Delivering its judgment on Monday, the apex court held that the case was baseless and a clear abuse of judicial process. The court further imposed a fine of N5 million on Owuru as a deterrent against such frivolous litigations in the future.
The decision reinforces President Tinubu’s electoral victory and serves as a blow to attempts challenging the legitimacy of his administration through ungrounded allegations.
Details of the judgment are expected to emerge in due course.
