Sustainable Aviation Fuel Struggles to Take Off, IATA Reports

Share

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) currently represents only 0.6% of global jet fuel consumption, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Production is expected to reach 1.9 million tonnes this year nearly double 2024’s output but high costs, 2–5 times higher than conventional jet fuel, and weak policies continue to slow growth. Airlines are projected to face an extra $3.6 billion in fuel costs in 2025 due to SAF.
IATA warns that without stronger, incentive-based policies, SAF supply will remain insufficient to meet climate targets, including the goal of 10% SAF usage by 2030. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
