Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, who was recently declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has written to the chairman of the commission requesting a new date to honour its invitation. In his letter, Sylva said he is medically unfit to appear before investigators due to what he described as a life-threatening health condition requiring urgent attention.
The former minister of state for petroleum resources is being sought by the EFCC over an alleged $14.8 million fraud linked to his time in office. According to sources familiar with the case, the commission declared him wanted after he failed to present himself for questioning despite earlier invitations. Sylva, however, insists his absence was unavoidable and not an attempt to evade investigation.
While seeking understanding from the anti-graft agency, Sylva emphasised that he is willing to cooperate fully with the EFCC once his health stabilises. The commission has yet to publicly respond to his letter or indicate whether a new date will be granted for his appearance.
