The Taraba State government has firmly dismissed claims circulating on social and traditional media that it has nominated the current deputy speaker of the state Assembly, Hamman-Adama Adamu, as the new deputy governor. In a statement issued during a press briefing, Zainab Jalingo, the state commissioner for information, reassured the public that the current deputy governor, Aminu Alkali, remains in office and that there is no vacancy in the position.

The government condemned the rumour as entirely false, describing it as “misleading, wicked,” and urged the public to disregard it. “The attention of the Taraba State Government has been drawn to rumour making the rounds on social and traditional media suggesting that His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, has nominated Alhaji Hamman Adama as the new Deputy Governor of the state,” Jalingo said.

The state government stressed that the process of replacing a Deputy Governor, as outlined in the Nigerian Constitution, is clear and requires due legislative and constitutional procedures. At this time, no such process has been initiated or is being considered.

“The Taraba State Government remains focused on delivering good governance and will not be distracted by unfounded speculations,” the statement added. The government further urged residents to remain calm and seek verified information exclusively from official communication channels.

This clarification follows growing speculation, which had been exacerbated by online reports, leading to confusion among the public. However, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to providing accurate information to its citizens.

In related news, the Nigerian Army recently brokered peace between feuding ethnic groups in the state, helping to restore calm to the region.
