Terrorists have abducted an unspecified number of travellers along the Wawa–Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, in a prolonged attack that residents say lasted from about 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday. Local sources told Daily Trust that the gunmen operated without resistance throughout the three-hour assault, ambushing vehicles and whisking passengers into the surrounding bush.

Witnesses reported that two passenger vehicles heading to Gupanti and Lumma communities were intercepted, with all occupants abducted. Another vehicle travelling toward Papiri came under gunfire, though the driver narrowly escaped. The attackers were said to be riding motorcycles, each carrying three armed men, and among the kidnapped victims is Mallam Umaru from Luma-Sanke. Residents described the coordinated nature of the assault, noting that the assailants split into three groups to cover multiple escape routes.

The gunmen were sighted around Kale, the Konkoje axis, the Wawa–Kaiama stretch and the Wawa–Luma corridor as they dispersed with their captives. As fear grips surrounding communities, questions loom over the response capacity of security agencies and the growing threat to major travel routes in the region.
