TETFund Approves N6.452 Billion for Nigerian Tertiary Institutions in 2026

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced plans to disburse N6.452 billion to public tertiary institutions across Nigeria under its 2026 intervention programme.
The announcement was made in Abuja during a stakeholders’ workshop on the 2026 disbursement guidelines by TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono.
The funds will be allocated to 271 beneficiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The breakdown of the disbursement is as follows:
Universities: N2.525 billion
Polytechnics: N1.871 billion
Colleges of Education: N2.056 billion
Approximately 90.75% of the total funds will be released as direct disbursements, combining annual direct (50%) and special direct (43.75%) allocations.
According to TETFund, the 2026 intervention aims to strengthen infrastructure, enhance academic programmes, boost research and innovation, and improve overall educational quality in the tertiary sector. A new initiative will also integrate the TERAS platform into the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) to expand access to global academic resources and strengthen digital research capacity.
