Three individuals sustained injuries following the collapse of a one-storey building in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Sunday afternoon. The incident, which took place at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque, occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time.
According to a statement issued by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emergency responders received a distress call at the specified time. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered that three adult males had been trapped under the rubble of the building, which was under construction. They were promptly rescued and administered first aid by emergency personnel before being transferred to a local hospital for further treatment by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
Responding to the incident were agencies including the Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as officials continue to assess the structural damage and evaluate the site’s safety.
At the time of publication, the exact cause of the collapse remains undetermined, with investigations actively underway to ascertain the factors leading to the building’s failure.
This incident marks the second building collapse in the area within the past month. Just weeks earlier, a three-storey building collapsed on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos on April 19, 2025, leading to the death of one person. A total of 13 individuals were rescued from the wreckage, although the building had been under construction at the time of its collapse. Eyewitnesses revealed that the building, which housed a local restaurant, caved in shortly after some staff arrived for the day.
The latest collapse in Mushin raises fresh concerns about building safety in Lagos, especially in the face of rapid urbanisation and construction across the city. Local authorities have urged for thorough investigations into these incidents to prevent further accidents in the future.
