In the historic city of Timbuktu, Mali, vibrant colors and cultural pride filled the air as young models strutted down an open-air runway during a “caravan for peace” fashion event designed to rekindle hope in a region long scarred by conflict. The two-day showcase, held at the edge of the ancient city, brought together local designers and artists determined to celebrate Mali’s resilience through creativity and tradition.

Leading the initiative was world-renowned Malian designer Sidi Ahmed Seidina Ali, popularly known as Alphadi, who urged citizens to return home and rebuild the city’s legacy. “Let us all come! All those born in Timbuktu, return to your homeland, return to your hometown to work and show that this city is magical,” he declared as camels and young models adorned in rich traditional fabrics graced the stage.

Organized in collaboration with local authorities, the event highlighted the beauty and strength of a city that was once a global center of Islamic scholarship before years of jihadi violence disrupted life in northern Mali. While officials say security has gradually improved, sporadic militant attacks continue, reminding residents that the journey toward peace and stability remains ongoing.
