The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the planned resumption of enforcement of the motor vehicle tinted glass permit policy by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), describing the move as a grave affront to judicial authority and a subversion of the rule of law. The criticism follows a press release issued on December 15, 2025, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announcing that enforcement of the previously suspended policy will resume on January 2, 2026.
In its response, the NBA expressed concern that the police action undermines public confidence in legal processes, insisting that enforcement of such policies must strictly align with court decisions and constitutional safeguards. The association warned that any perception of executive overreach could further strain trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies already under intense public scrutiny.
The Nigeria Police Force, however, maintained that the earlier suspension of enforcement was voluntary and not based on any court order. According to the NPF, the pause was intended to promote responsibility, transparency, and public convenience, giving motorists sufficient time to regularise their documents and complete permit applications without pressure. The renewed enforcement has now reignited debate nationwide. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news details and follow us on all our social media platforms.
