President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for his administration’s ambitious road and infrastructure projects, describing them as transformative efforts that align with the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Speaking during the flag-off of key road projects in Edo, President Tinubu lauded Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to improving urban mobility and rural connectivity across the state. He particularly praised the construction of a one-kilometre flyover bridge at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, which features 24 spans of 20 metres each. The President said the project would significantly ease traffic congestion in Benin City and boost local commerce.

Tinubu also highlighted the ongoing Benin-Asaba Highway project, a 125-kilometre dual carriageway launched under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework. The project, expected to be completed within 30 months, includes modern features such as solar-powered street lighting and enhanced drainage systems.

The President further acknowledged the dualisation of the Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella-Okene-Ajaokuta Expressway, describing it as a vital link between Edo and Kogi States that would strengthen inter-state trade and industrial growth. Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to durable infrastructure, stating that “roads constructed under this administration will stand the test of time and last for over 50 years.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and Governor Okpebholo recently inspected ongoing works on several federal roads in Edo. Both leaders emphasized the need for quality delivery and the adoption of reinforced concrete technology to ensure longevity.

Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, thanked President Tinubu for the federal government’s support, pledging to maintain transparency and accountability in project execution. He assured Edo residents that his administration remains focused on projects that directly improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth.

“These projects are not just about roads,” Okpebholo said. “They are about connecting communities, empowering people, and restoring hope in governance.”

The governor has also launched road construction in nine Edo communities as part of a broader infrastructural renewal agenda aimed at accelerating development across the state.
