President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, with petroleum product loading commencing on November 26, 2024.

In a statement, the President acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari’s role in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries and thanked the African Export-Import Bank for financing the critical project. He also commended NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his dedication in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.

President Tinubu urged NNPCL to accelerate the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries, to bolster domestic production capacity. He highlighted the administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria into an energy hub, with attention on the gas sector and private refinery contributions.

Emphasizing the importance of restoring the nation’s refining capacity, Tinubu reaffirmed his resolve to end Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined products, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda for shared economic prosperity. He called on all stakeholders to uphold values of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure.
