President Bola Tinubu’s administration has officially approved the commencement of the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, reviving a vision first conceived in the 1980s under President Shehu Shagari. The ambitious project is designed to link northern and southwestern Nigeria, creating new opportunities for trade, travel, and national integration.

The superhighway is expected to provide direct market access for farmers, boost agricultural exports, and facilitate the smooth movement of goods across the country. Beyond trade, the project will create thousands of jobs, empower local communities, and accelerate socio-economic development along the route.

According to government projections, the project will be executed in phases, with the first 258-kilometre stretch scheduled for completion by 2027. Once completed, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is set to redefine Nigeria’s transport network, strengthen regional connectivity, and drive sustained economic growth.
