
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mr. Musikilu Mojeed, Editor-in-Chief of PREMIUM TIMES, on his re-election as President of the Nigeria chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI). Tinubu also extended his felicitations to other newly elected leaders of the chapter.
Mr. Mojeed was re-elected alongside Mr. Ahmed Shekarau of Media Trust as Secretary and Mr. Fidelis Mbah of Al Jazeera Television as Deputy President. Other elected executives include Rafatu Salami of Voice of Nigeria (Treasurer), Yomi Adeboye of Herald Newspaper (Assistant Secretary), and Tobi Soniyi of Arise News (Legal Adviser).
President Tinubu commended the IPI Nigeria chapter for its commitment to fostering responsible journalism and urged the new leadership to collaborate with his administration to enhance access to information and uphold the country’s democratic principles.
“The new IPI leadership has a prominent role in ensuring responsible journalism that advances national interest, as enshrined in the constitution,” the President said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President expressed confidence that the re-elected leaders and their team would continue to advocate for press freedom while promoting professionalism and ethical reporting in Nigeria’s media landscape.
He encouraged the IPI Nigeria chapter to maintain its critical role in strengthening democracy by holding power accountable, shaping public discourse, and safeguarding the constitutional right to free expression.
The re-election of Mr. Mojeed and the leadership team reflects the confidence of IPI Nigeria members in their ability to steer the organization toward greater achievements in the coming term.
