President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.
Adamu’s appointment, announced on March 29, marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the top administrative position in CAF since its establishment in 1957.
He assumes the role in an acting capacity following the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba, having previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events.
President Tinubu described the development as a major milestone for Nigerian sports and a reflection of the country’s influence in African football administration. He commended Adamu’s professionalism and contributions to CAF competitions, noting their impact on improving standards across the continent.
The President expressed confidence in Adamu’s ability to strengthen CAF operations and advance football development across its 54 member associations, while assuring him of Nigeria’s full support.
