President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed ministers and other senior government officials to obtain presidential clearance before being assigned police escorts, as part of efforts to ensure discipline, accountability, and proper use of security resources.

The directive, which was conveyed through the appropriate government channels, is aimed at curbing the indiscriminate deployment of police personnel for personal duties and ensuring that security operatives are assigned strictly in line with assessed threats and official responsibilities.

According to the directive, requests for police escorts by ministers must now be justified and routed through established procedures for presidential approval. The move is also intended to strengthen oversight of security deployments and free up police manpower for core law enforcement duties across the country.

The policy aligns with the administration’s broader security reform agenda, which seeks to enhance professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force and promote responsible governance in the management of public resources.
