President Bola Tinubu has directed that comprehensive security measures be implemented to ensure the swift restoration of power supply to northern Nigeria.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu made this announcement to State House correspondents following a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja on Monday.
Adelabu explained that a faulty transmission line was behind the power outage in the North, stating that repairs should typically take three to five days. However, the timeline has been extended due to security concerns in the affected area.
He revealed that Tinubu has tasked National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and other relevant security agencies with ensuring the safety of personnel working on the repairs.
“Repairing a transmission line should take three to five days under normal conditions, provided there are no security threats that jeopardize the safety of the workers,” Adelabu noted. “The delays have stemmed from our inability to guarantee the security of those tasked with the repairs. The President has assured me that he has instructed the NSA, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chiefs of Army and Air Staff to provide the necessary security.”
J.O Comms Online reports that the power outage, affecting regions in the Northeast, Northwest, and parts of North-Central Nigeria, was caused by insurgents vandalizing the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, resulting in blackouts in major cities like Kaduna and Kano.
