The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains resolutely focused on steering the country towards economic prosperity rather than being distracted by discussions about the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the South East Stakeholders Consultative Forum, Uzoka-Anite described Tinubu as a bold and courageous leader committed to restoring Nigeria’s glory.
“We are blessed to have the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. Even from his first day in office, he took bold steps by initiating reforms that were necessary for our nation’s progress. He prioritizes what is right for the country, even at great political risk, rather than focusing on re-election prospects,” the minister stated.
The minister’s remarks follow Tinubu’s recent presentation of the Budget of Restoration at the National Assembly, which aims to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and chart a path toward sustainable development. Uzoka-Anite emphasized that ongoing reforms, particularly in taxation, are vital for achieving fiscal responsibility and transparency.
“Tax reform is pivotal for Nigeria’s development and growth. These measures are already yielding dividends as our economy begins to recover and bounce back,” she added.
Highlighting progress under Tinubu’s administration, Uzoka-Anite pointed to infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Sokoto-Badagry Road, and new railway networks. She likened these developments to how the United States began its journey to greatness, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s ability to replicate such success.
During the meeting, the convener of the South East Stakeholders Consultative Forum, Benedict Opara, outlined plans for a regional stakeholders’ gathering to address socio-economic issues in the South East.
Opara said, “The forum will bring together institutional leaders, civil society, and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable development in the South East. Our goal is to foster dialogue and promote global best practices in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
The maiden edition of the forum is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, with participation from South East leaders and representatives from the region’s five state governments.
This initiative, Opara noted, aims to address challenges in the South East while fostering collaboration for regional and national development.
