The Tinubu-Kashim administration is fast-tracking the implementation of the National Single Window at Nigeria’s ports by 2026 to streamline documentation, reduce human contact, and increase transparency in cargo clearance. Vice President Kashim Shettima said the initiative will cut average cargo clearance time from 21 days to under seven days, positioning Nigerian ports among Africa’s top three most efficient trade corridors.
VP Shettima directed the Nigerian Ports Authority, Customs, NAFDAC, SON, and other agencies to develop a roadmap for an effective weights and measures framework to ensure accurate trade practices, protect consumers, and align port operations with international standards. The move is expected to create a predictable and investor-friendly trading environment.
Officials stressed that inter-agency collaboration, technology adoption, infrastructure upgrades, and capacity building are essential to transforming Nigeria’s ports. The National Single Window policy, combined with enhanced coordination among agencies, is set to boost trade efficiency, attract investment, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness as a leading African trading hub.
