President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s steel sector and making the country Africa’s leading steel hub by 2030. The initiative targets 10 million metric tonnes of domestic steel production annually and the creation of 500,000 jobs, as announced at the National Steel Summit 2025.

The policy focuses on reducing import dependence, boosting local production, promoting technology adoption, and encouraging private sector investment. Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, highlighted the integration of the steel sector into the broader economic plan aimed at achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Legislative and technical collaborations will support the strategy, ensuring a coalition of industry leaders, financiers, and experts drive the sector’s growth. The administration aims to make steel production a cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrialisation, economic resilience, and global competitiveness, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
