President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday officially inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The committee, tasked with addressing internal disputes and strengthening party cohesion, brings together governors, federal officials, and prominent party stakeholders. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed Chairman, while former APC Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, serves as Member/Secretary.
Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors Forum Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Imo State Governor and Progressive Governors Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also part of the committee are Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
At the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked the President for the confidence placed in the committee, pledging to carry out the assignment with dedication and impartiality. He emphasised that the committee would engage in strategic consultations to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, particularly addressing the concerns of aggrieved party members.
Buni also highlighted that the committee would proactively identify potential conflicts and implement solutions to safeguard party unity, urging members to prioritise collective interest over personal considerations.
Earlier, on December 19, at the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, President Tinubu stressed the importance of cohesion within the party. He reminded leaders that the APC’s foundation rests on progressive politics, inclusive participation, and respect for diverse opinions, calling for tolerance and accommodation as key ingredients for the party’s resilience.
