President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held private, one-on-one meetings with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru at the State House in Abuja. The sessions, conducted in strict confidentiality, are seen as part of ongoing consultations with state leaders on political and regional matters.
Governor Fubara’s meeting came at a time of heightened political activity in Rivers State, following the defection of 17 members of the State House of Assembly loyal to former FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Only three PDP-aligned lawmakers now remain, and many have boycotted sessions since the end of emergency rule, intensifying speculation about the governor’s political direction. Governor Nwifuru’s engagement focused on regional priorities in the South-East, including infrastructure and security, though details were not officially disclosed.
While the State House did not release statements on the content of the meetings, political observers suggest that the discussions reflect the presidency’s continued interest in managing state-level dynamics and ensuring stability in key regions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
