President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation following a rigorous selection process.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirming that Ogunjimi’s appointment, approved on Tuesday, will take effect from March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His appointment followed a competitive, merit-based selection process, involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.

“A selection committee conducted a three-stage process, including a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, to ensure the most qualified candidate emerged,” the statement read.

The presidency emphasized that the rigorous selection underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.

Ogunjimi’s Background and Qualifications

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to uphold integrity, professionalism, and dedication in his service to the nation.
