President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s judgement on the financial independence of local governments. Speaking at the 15th National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, he warned that governors who fail to comply may face executive measures, noting that allocations could be affected if the ruling is ignored.

The President also emphasised the importance of party cohesion, tolerance, and adherence to progressive values, describing them as essential for Nigeria’s stability, prosperity, and inclusive development. On security, he advocated the introduction of State Police and called on the National Assembly to work with the Inspector-General of Police to prevent abuses in the fight against terrorism and banditry. He further voiced support for increasing women’s representation in elective positions and urged the legislature not to centralise lottery operations, which fall under state jurisdiction.

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised President Tinubu for his political courage and foresight, while APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda announced the commencement of nationwide e-registration of party members and extended the tenure of existing Executive Committees until March 2026. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Hope Uzodimma commended the President’s bold economic reforms aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s prosperity.
