Amid growing social media speculation, the Nigerian Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu is not in France for medical treatment. Presidential spokesman, Daniel Bwala, categorically refuted the claims, stating that the president’s visit to Paris, France, which began on April 2, 2025, is for a short work-related trip and not for healthcare purposes.

Bwala made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, addressing unfounded rumours circulating on various social media platforms. He emphasized the importance of verifying information before spreading it, adding, “Sometimes, on social media, anybody can tweet, and it could be someone with mental health issues. People must be cautious about where they get their information.”

The visit, according to another official statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, is part of a working retreat designed to assess the progress of ongoing reforms and to engage in strategic planning as the administration prepares for its second anniversary. A video shared by the Presidency showed President Tinubu bidding farewell to senior government officials before boarding the presidential aircraft for his journey.

Onanuga confirmed that the president is scheduled to return to Nigeria by April 16, 2025.
