Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized that books remain an essential part of education despite rapid technological advancement.

She made this known during a meeting with the United States Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, Charles Harder, on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit held in Washington.

The summit, hosted by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, brought together over 45 First Ladies from across the world to deliberate on issues affecting children and adolescents globally.

Speaking during the engagement, Senator Tinubu stressed the importance of encouraging children to read books, noting that it helps broaden their knowledge without the distractions associated with social media and other digital platforms.

She reaffirmed that education remains a top priority under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting ongoing efforts to build a strong and sustainable foundation for national development.

The First Lady added that effective leadership requires a deep understanding of the people, noting that the President is focused on reforming and strengthening key systems for long-term growth.

She also disclosed that the Office of the First Lady will soon launch a nationwide campaign on child nutrition as part of efforts to improve the well-being of Nigerian children.

In his remarks, Charles Harder said the meeting was aimed at deepening discussions on the needs and future of Nigerian children. He explained that the Best Future Generations initiative seeks to address critical issues affecting children worldwide, including nutrition, healthcare, and protection from abuse.

Discussions at the summit also focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on children and adolescents, alongside broader concerns about their development and welfare.
