Prominent Nigerian political figures are currently converging at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for what is shaping up to be a landmark media conference hosted by the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

The gathering brings together heavyweight politicians from across party lines, signaling a potential political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among those already present are:

Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP)

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State

Dino Melaye, former senator and ex-Minister of Youth and Sports

Solomon Dalung, former Minister of Youth and Sports

Dele Momodu, publisher and former PDP presidential aspirant

Senator Gabriel Suswam, former governor of Benue State

Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party

Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State

Emeka Ihedioha, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives

Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), former Chief of Air Staff

The high-profile turnout includes several active and former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political blocs, underscoring the coalition’s national reach.

Former Senate President David Mark, who recently resigned from the PDP, is expected to arrive shortly to formally lead other coalition members into the hall and declare the conference open.

The new coalition — which insiders say will soon be officially unveiled — aims to serve as a unifying platform for disaffected politicians and opposition leaders seeking an alternative to the country’s two dominant parties: the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP.

The conference is expected to outline the coalition’s roadmap, guiding principles, and leadership structure, with David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola reportedly set to serve as interim National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

This development follows a wave of recent political exits, including Mark’s departure from the PDP, which he described as being “a shadow of its former self” due to internal crises.

More updates to follow as the conference officially gets underway.
