Troops Prevent Bandit Attack, Arrest Two Suspects with AK-47 Rifles in Taraba

The Nigerian Army has successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack in Southern Taraba State, thanks to the efforts of troops from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

In a statement released on Thursday, the Army explained that the operation was launched based on credible intelligence regarding an imminent terrorist attack targeting villages in the area.

“On December 11, 2024, troops quickly launched aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations to prevent the attack,” the statement noted.

During the operation, two suspects, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, were apprehended in Adu village while attempting to infiltrate the Chachanji market. The two were reportedly planning criminal activities, including kidnapping.

The operation led to the recovery of:

  • Two AK-47 rifles
  • Two AK-47 magazines
  • 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

The suspects are currently in custody and are being investigated to uncover more details about their network and criminal activities.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, which ensured the success of the operation.

“The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism, banditry, and all forms of criminality,” Brigadier General Uwa stated.

He also thanked law-abiding citizens for their ongoing support and cooperation in providing timely and actionable intelligence.

“Together, we will continue working towards a safer and more secure nation,” he added.

This operation highlights the Army’s dedication to ensuring peace and security in Taraba State and the wider region.
