US President-elect Donald Trump announced late Sunday that he was bringing back Tom Homan, the tough-talking former ICE Director, to oversee the nation’s borders in his incoming administration.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and staunch Border Control advocate, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration as our Nation’s Borders ‘Czar.'”
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is no one better at securing and controlling our borders,” Trump added.
Homan, who previously led U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will be responsible for overseeing the deportation of undocumented immigrants, ensuring their return to their countries of origin.
The 78-year-old Republican, who has made immigration enforcement a central issue, has pledged to launch what he has called the largest deportation operation in U.S. history on the first day of his presidency. Throughout his campaign, Trump repeatedly criticized illegal immigration, using harsh rhetoric about those he claimed were undermining the country.
