The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding strategic partnership with the European Union (EU). He made this known while hosting a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

Ambassador Tuggar underscored the depth of Nigeria’s relations with the EU, describing Europe as the nation’s largest trading partner with a trade volume of approximately €31.8 billion. He emphasized that the partnership goes beyond trade, encompassing cooperation in security, regional integration, and sustainable development.

The Minister also highlighted Nigeria’s admission as the 77th shareholder of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), calling it a major milestone that will expand the country’s investment opportunities and development cooperation with Europe.

On their part, the EU delegation, led by David McAllister, described Nigeria as a “strategic partner” with growing influence in West Africa and across the continent. The delegation assured that they would continue to build on the existing partnership to promote peace, prosperity, and mutual growth.
