The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that two of the three ongoing bus and taxi terminal projects in Abuja will be completed by January 2024. This was disclosed during an inspection of the construction sites on Tuesday.

Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made since the project’s inauguration in July, noting that the contractor was initially given 15 months to complete all three terminals located in Mabushi, Eagle Square, and Kugbo. However, the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals are set to be completed nine months ahead of schedule.

“When completed, no bus or taxi will be allowed to operate on FCT roads, and all transport services will be required to move to the designated terminals,” Wike stated. He emphasized that the terminals will create a structured and secure environment for commuters, as part of the wider Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to address transportation and security issues in the FCT.

While work at the Mabushi and Kugbo sites is progressing well, the minister acknowledged some delays at the Eagle Square terminal due to underground facilities. However, he assured that the issues had been resolved with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), and construction will resume shortly.

The bus terminals are designed to enhance the safety, convenience, and overall efficiency of public transportation in Abuja, contributing to the administration’s broader efforts to upgrade the city’s infrastructure and reduce insecurity.
