Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn their support for the impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers are Hon. Mrs. Barile Nwakoh, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Assembly, and Hon. Emilia Amadi. Their decision brings the total number of lawmakers who have stepped back from the impeachment move to four out of the 26 members of the House.
The impeachment process, which has continued to generate political tension in the state, is targeted at Governor Fubara and his deputy over alleged infractions yet to be fully resolved.
The latest withdrawals are seen as a significant development amid ongoing political realignments within the Rivers State legislature, as stakeholders continue consultations aimed at resolving the crisis.
No official statement has yet been issued by the Assembly leadership regarding the impact of the withdrawals on the impeachment proceedings.
