U.S. Court Rules Most Trump Tariffs Illegal

A federal appeals court has struck down most of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, ruling he overstepped his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The decision invalidates Trump’s 10% global tariffs and higher duties on countries including China, Canada, and Mexico, but leaves sector-specific tariffs on steel and copper intact.

For now, the tariffs stay in place until October 14, 2025, giving the Trump administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The ruling echoes earlier findings that Trump’s use of IEEPA was improper, setting up a potential Supreme Court showdown over presidential power in trade policy.
