The UK government has ended its numerical target for recruiting international students, shifting its focus to expanding education exports to £40 billion a year by 2030 under a revised international education strategy.
Ministers said the new approach prioritises the global reach and economic value of British education rather than student headcounts. Education exports including overseas campuses, transnational partnerships, professional training and UK qualifications delivered abroad currently generate around £32 billion annually.
The government stressed that international students remain welcome in the UK, but future growth will emphasise sustainability, quality and stronger compliance standards. Universities are also being encouraged to expand their presence overseas, particularly in emerging education markets.
The strategy aims to strengthen the UK’s position as a global education hub, both at home and internationally. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
