The UK government has announced updated financial requirements for student, tourist, and work visa applicants starting in 2025 to address the growing cost of living in the country.
For international students, the minimum amount required to demonstrate financial readiness for living expenses has increased. Applicants planning to study in London must now show £1,400 per month for living costs—an increase from the previous £1,334. For those studying outside London, the monthly requirement has risen to £1,100, up from £1,023. These changes apply to a nine-month period, in addition to proof of the first year’s course fees.
The UK has also adjusted visa fees. The standard student visa fee will increase from £490 to £510, while the fee for a tourist visa will rise from £115 to £120.
These updates reflect the UK government’s response to inflation and rising living costs, which continue to impact both domestic and international residents. The changes are expected to influence prospective applicants’ financial planning, particularly students, who must budget for higher upfront expenses before entering the UK.
The adjustments aim to ensure that visa applicants are better prepared for the financial realities of living in the UK while maintaining a sustainable immigration system.
Further details and guidance for applicants are expected to be provided by the UK Home Office in the coming weeks.
