UMZA Air has commenced scheduled commercial flights on the Abuja–Ilorin route, introducing competitive fares that are expected to ease travel costs and break longstanding price dominance on the corridor.
The airline began operations on the route on November 30, marking its entry into a market previously dominated by Overland Airways. Until now, passengers frequently complained about high ticket prices due to limited competition.
With UMZA Air’s arrival, one-way fares have dropped significantly, with introductory prices ranging between ₦145,000 and ₦180,000 a notable reduction compared to the typical ₦260,000 to ₦300,000 previously charged by the incumbent operator.
The new service features a schedule tailored for business and government travellers: morning departures from Ilorin to Abuja and evening return flights, making same-day travel more convenient.
Aviation analysts say the airline’s entry, alongside recent expansions by United Nigeria Airlines on the same route, is already reshaping the pricing landscape and offering travelers more options.
Passengers and industry watchers are optimistic that the increased competition will lead to more affordable and reliable air travel between the two cities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
