UN Appoints Dr. Hussein Gadain as New FAO Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS

The Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, has appointed Dr. Hussein Gadain as the new FAO Representative to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Dr. Gadain arrived in Nigeria on July 8, 2025, to officially take up the role. He brings with him more than 30 years of expertise in natural resource management, food security, and agricultural development across Africa and the Middle East.

In his new capacity, Dr. Gadain will lead FAO’s strategic engagement with the Government of Nigeria, ECOWAS institutions, development partners, and other key stakeholders. He is also tasked with overseeing the implementation of the FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2023–2027, which prioritizes sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, improved nutrition, and inclusive rural development.
