UNILAG Confers Honorary Doctorate on Oando GCEO, Wale Tinubu

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has conferred an honorary Doctorate in Business (Honoris Causa) on Mr. Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive Officer of Oando Plc, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to business leadership, enterprise development, and national economic growth.
The honorary degree was awarded during the university’s 56th Convocation Ceremony, held on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, at the UNILAG campus in Lagos. The institution described Tinubu as a visionary business leader whose impact has been instrumental in the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to the citation read at the ceremony, Tinubu was honoured for his role in building Oando Plc into one of Africa’s leading indigenous energy companies, as well as his commitment to innovation, sustainability, and private-sector-led development.
While delivering remarks on behalf of the honorary award recipients, Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the University of Lagos, describing the recognition as both humbling and a call to greater service. He stressed the importance of resilience, ethical leadership, and the effective application of education in addressing societal and economic challenges.
The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary degrees on other distinguished Nigerians, including former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, who received a Doctor of Laws degree.
