Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced a brand-new high-speed roller coaster inspired by the Fast & Furious franchise — and it’s set to replace one of the park’s most iconic rides.
The new attraction, titled Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, will debut at Universal Studios Florida in 2027. It will take over the land currently occupied by Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which is scheduled to permanently close in 2025 after more than a decade of operation.
According to Universal, Hollywood Drift will be a cutting-edge coaster experience designed to immerse guests in the high-octane world of street racing, drifting, and blockbuster action made famous by the film series. While full ride details are still under wraps, the attraction is expected to feature high speeds, dynamic turns, and innovative ride technology that pushes beyond what guests experienced on Rip Ride Rockit.
The announcement marks a major transformation for the front section of Universal Studios Florida, with the Fast & Furious brand becoming a more prominent part of the park’s future. It also signals Universal’s continued investment in thrill rides and franchise-driven attractions as competition intensifies with nearby theme parks.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which opened in 2009, became known for its vertical lift hill and customizable music tracks. Its closure in 2025 will make way for construction of the new coaster ahead of the 2027 launch.
Universal says more details about Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift — including ride layout, height, and top speed — will be revealed closer to the start of construction.
