The United States Mission in Nigeria has praised the Federal Government and Nigerian security forces for the successful arrest of two wanted Ansaru leaders. In a statement posted on its official X handle, @USinNigeria, the Mission described the development as a “significant step forward” in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
The wanted insurgent leaders, identified as Mahmud Muhammad Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) and Mahmud al-Nigeri (aka Mallam Mamuda), were captured in a recent security operation. Both men have long been on the radar of Nigerian and international intelligence agencies for their roles in terrorist activities across the country.
The US Mission stressed that the arrests demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to combating extremist threats, while also reaffirming America’s support for Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts. Security experts believe the development could provide valuable intelligence to weaken Ansaru’s network and curb its capacity for future attacks.
