At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), US First Lady Jill Biden hosted a farewell luncheon for visiting First Ladies from around the world, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The luncheon, held at Pier 57 in New York, marked a significant moment as it was the last Jill Biden will host in her role as First Lady of the United States, with her tenure coming to an end in January next year.
Jill Biden reflected on the strong bonds she had forged with the visiting First Ladies, particularly in their collective efforts to promote global peace and advance development in their respective countries. She expressed deep appreciation for their continued collaboration and friendship over the years.
“I appreciate you all for always coming for this gathering,” Biden said. “I have a great feeling that I will be seeing more of you in my next chapter of life. I wish you all the best as you return to your various countries, as it has come to my notice that many of you have a long way back home.”
Lunch events such as this have become a tradition on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, providing a unique platform for world leaders and their delegations to engage in bilateral talks, forge partnerships, and strengthen diplomatic ties.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, attended the luncheon as part of her engagements at the 79th session of UNGA, marking the conclusion of her participation in the high-level event.
