US, Nigeria Partner to Boost Agricultural Trade

The United States and Nigeria are working together to expand agricultural trade and strengthen food security through innovative policy reforms.

At a roundtable hosted by the U.S. Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and Nigerian partners, experts warned that restrictive trade measures like import bans and high tariffs raise food prices, push trade into informal markets, and deter agribusiness investment.

Stakeholders called for reforms including reduced tariffs, harmonised regulations, and private-sector-led export mechanisms. They also stressed the need for infrastructure, innovation, and predictable policies to drive long-term growth.

The U.S. and Nigerian governments plan to turn the recommendations into practical projects aimed at boosting trade, creating jobs, and building a more resilient agricultural sector.
