The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is offering support to victims of the devastating floods in Maiduguri through collaboration with United Nations agencies and partner organizations.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is utilizing an initial $3 million in USAID funding to address the flood’s impact across the country.
This information was shared in a statement from the US government made available to the media on Monday.
According to the statement, USAID, in partnership with the World Food Program (WFP), is providing hot meal rations to four camps for internally displaced persons, reaching over 67,000 individuals in recent days.
The WFP is also delivering emergency nutrition assistance to pregnant and lactating women, as well as children under five.
“To further meet urgent needs, USAID is supporting the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) in conducting food airlifts to hard-to-reach areas in Borno and Maiduguri city.
Other USAID-funded partners, including both international and local NGOs, are reallocating existing resources to deliver essential aid to those affected by the floods in Maiduguri and the nearby Jere Local Government Area.
“We commend the bravery and resilience of the Maiduguri community, along with the relentless efforts of first responders, aid workers, and local authorities who are providing crucial services. Our thoughts are with the people of Borno during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
