Nigeria’s power infrastructure has once again been targeted by vandals, with a significant portion of the transmission line along the Lokoja-Gwagwalada route being damaged. According to a statement from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), three towers along the route’s Line One were vandalized, severely disrupting bulk power transmission. The vandals also stole two spans of aluminum conductors, compounding the disruption.
Though the line operates as a double-circuit system, TCN has assured that bulk power is still being supplied through Line Two. The company is currently working to source replacement aluminum conductors to repair the damaged sections of Line One.
In response to this latest attack, TCN warned that the rising trend of vandalism on transmission lines and towers poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s power infrastructure, compromising efforts to expand and stabilize the national grid. The company reiterated its appeal to communities hosting transmission lines and towers, urging them to collaborate with security operatives to prevent further damage.
As Nigeria faces ongoing challenges in meeting its power demands, the recurring incidents of vandalism exacerbate an already strained grid system, affecting both residential and commercial power stability across the country.
