Legendary Nollywood actor Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has died at the age of 72. The veteran thespian reportedly passed away on Friday morning, though details surrounding his death remain unclear at the time of this report.

The news was confirmed by popular filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi, who announced the sad development in an Instagram post, writing: “Popular actor, Segun Remi died Friday morning.” The announcement has since sparked tributes from fans and colleagues across the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Chief Kanran was a beloved figure in the Yoruba film scene, with a career spanning decades. He was best known for his memorable role as General Philips in episode 13 of the now-defunct TV soap Megafortune, and for his contributions to numerous stage and screen productions that cemented his place as a household name in Nigerian entertainment.
